International Woman of Mystery

We are going to Thailand because of all reasons, a wedding.

Here are the places we will be crashing:

Navalai in Bangkok
Villa Liberg in Phuket

I will not be posting for a while, for obvious reasons. For those of you who will miss me, I will miss you too.

Weird Dream

So I had a dream where Seal, Heidi Klum and their children were coming to our house for Pre Thanksgiving. Heidi and I were not close but Seal and I were. Heidi brought a potato dish and was wearing a v neck sweater and slacks. She looked great. And yohboh wanted to talk to her but did not. Our children were playing together and their youngest and Ava were holding hands and walking around like little kids do. Then someone ticked Seal off and he decided to leave and Heidi took her potato dish and I was disappointed that I never tasted Heidi Klum's cooking.

Would anyone care to interpret this?

Wearing Daddy's shoes

Wearing Daddy's shoes

It is astonishing to think my husband was ever this small....

URGH

Somedays, I just want to beat up over privileged white guys who get where they are because of their fathers.

SCREAM
This is how I feel....

Something that brightened my afternoon

Did you know that Martha Stewart has been in jail longer that Snoop Dogg?

Here are the two of them cooking.

Bad Day

Do you ever just want to punch someone because you are so frustrated? Like literally inflict pain on the idiot who has fucked up your shit? Like a large multinational corporation who is fucking over the little man because they can?

This is my day.

How is yours going?

Colossally Grumpy Baby

Ava screamed all morning so I figured she was tired and I put her down early for her nap. Three and a half hours later, she woke up and screamed some more so she went to bed early.

Eating Ma Snack

She also made coconut bread with me. She helped me mix it and stuck her hand in the batter. And ate the batter off her hand.

Oy, motherhood, it hurts!

COLD

So it is supposed to get cold tonight, like freezing point! BRRRR! So to compensate for this alleged coldness I overbundled my child.

Overbunded
That is one pair of pajamas (long sleeved shirt and long pants), one sweatshirt, one pair of sweatpants, two pairs of socks, one sleeveless long vest with hood and Daddy's hat.
I know, I am a weirdo.

Also, congrats on KC for winning an award!

Smart Car

So today, I saw my first smart car at the parking lot of Trader Joe's.

I was curious to see the driver. I envisioned someone who was very lean because all they ate was organic food and humanely grown meat. I expected this person to be wearing pleather and hemp clothing with unclean hair and Birkenstocks with the thick nubby socks.

Imagine my amusement when I found the man driving the car was larger than my husband in terms of height and girth as well as wearing polyester and chowing down on cinnamon cookies.

I guess cars do not reflect you at all?

One year ago today

Ava in the frozen food section

For Stinky

This is Ava's new favorite song. I could watch it all day. I mean, I am having booty envy. Ava does all the hand gestures. She calls this the oh oh oh video.

This is an SNL skit. I think Justin Timberlake has better legs than me....

Looking at pictures of herself

Looking at pictures of herself

Ava is looking at pictures of herself.

Eww

Ava has a runny nose. So we take the nasal aspirator and extract her snot because she can blow her nose, but this is more effective. Before I extract it out, I get a warm washcloth to loosen her snot and as a place to collect it.

And there is a LOT of snot. And I am sorry, but after getting the third aspirator-ful of snot, I let out an EWWW. Yohboh does not like that I let out an EWWW. But I ask you, if you had to empty someone's snot even your own child's and you have a washcloth full of the yellow stuff, wouldn't you say EWWW?

Toddlerhood

Ava went to the bathroom and took all the toilet paper that was on a fresh roll of Charmin (I may be poor but I buy good quality booty wipes) and put it in the toilet. I asked her why and she said "Help"

And she drank out of the dog's water bowl. SHUDDER!

Pre Thanksgiving

So every year, we host a pot luck where we have Thanksgiving for everyone. For food pictures, visit the food blog.

New song and steak

Ava really likes that new Beyonce song about the single ladies needing the ring. She likes to do the hand gestures and tries to do the dancing.

And Ava likes steak. Yohboh could not be more proud.

Ava and her Daddy

So Ava actually alternates on who puts her to bed at night. Sometimes it is me and sometimes it is Daddy. She asks. HOW CUTE IS THAT?

Trying to smush Daddy

This is the Avanator trying to smush Daddy.

Let America be America Again

Let America Be America Again

by Langston Hughes

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

(It never was America to me.)

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

(There's never been equality for me,
Nor freedom in this "homeland of the free.")

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark?
And who are you that draws your veil across the stars?

I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery's scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek—
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.

I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one's own greed!

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
I am the worker sold to the machine.
I am the Negro, servant to you all.
I am the people, humble, hungry, mean—
Hungry yet today despite the dream.
Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers!
I am the man who never got ahead,
The poorest worker bartered through the years.

Yet I'm the one who dreamt our basic dream
In the Old World while still a serf of kings,
Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true,
That even yet its mighty daring sings
In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned
That's made America the land it has become.
O, I'm the man who sailed those early seas
In search of what I meant to be my home—
For I'm the one who left dark Ireland's shore,
And Poland's plain, and England's grassy lea,
And torn from Black Africa's strand I came
To build a "homeland of the free."

The free?

Who said the free? Not me?
Surely not me? The millions on relief today?
The millions shot down when we strike?
The millions who have nothing for our pay?
For all the dreams we've dreamed
And all the songs we've sung
And all the hopes we've held
And all the flags we've hung,
The millions who have nothing for our pay—
Except the dream that's almost dead today.

O, let America be America again—
The land that never has been yet—
And yet must be—the land where every man is free.
The land that's mine—the poor man's, Indian's, Negro's, ME—
Who made America,
Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain,
Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain,
Must bring back our mighty dream again.

Sure, call me any ugly name you choose—
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people's lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!

O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath—
America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain—
All, all the stretch of these great green states—
And make America again!

Failure to follow instructions

On Thursday, my mother came by in the afternoon to watch Ava while she napped while I went to an appointment. Ava was in bed, not asleep but about to fall asleep.

I left very explicit and simple directions for my mother:
1)Leave Ava alone, she will fall asleep
2)DO NOT take her out of the crib.

Doesn't this sound like a dream babysitting gig?

I left.

When I returned 90 minutes later, Ava was out of her crib utterly exhausted. My mother's excuse was Ava pooped (understandable) and then Ava was messing with things in her crib so she took her out of her crib and let her watch TV.

Ava's sleep schedule has been totally fucked ever since. Because Ava now knows that if she calls out, she could get picked up. So now when Ava takes a nap or goes to sleep, she calls MAMA for 45 minutes to an hour. Which she never did before because she knew that she was supposed to be asleep. But SOMEONE has introduced the idea that if she calls out, she will get picked up.

Thank you so much Mother for allowing my child's sleep to be troubled now and more importantly elucidating why I am such a poor sleeper. You probably never left me alone so I could fall asleep.

She looks just like my sister.

Looks like Stinky

I hope my sister's children look just like me.

Change.gov

Yeah, we are coming into a new era.

Some level of transparency in the government. A way to communicate to our leader about our ideas as citizens? Did you even know about the Transition Directory?

Wow, some shit is going to hit the fan.....

Republicans for Welfare

Joe the Plumber, who called out president-elect "Sammy Davis Junior" was on welfare not once but TWICE.

Irony much?

Bad Day

Sitting Pretty

I had an annoying day where I just ended up irritated and frustrated. Then I hung with my old roomie, Sessoms who makes me laugh. And I ate a pinkberry esque thing. And my baby was being supercute. And all is right in the world.

Fun in the Swing

Ava loves her swing!

Aftermath thoughts

I think that John McCain was very gracious in his speech last night. I hope that we see more of the 2000 McCain in the future.

Palin, go home to Alaska and look at Russia from your window. Don't come back. When you hear the silence in 2012, that is the American people not asking you to return.

Georgia votes are miscounted. Why am I not surprised?

Obama's speech was subdued because he knows of the work ahead. Does anyone else think presidential years are like dog years? Every president comes out looking at least 30 years older.

The American Dream

The American Dream is not broken.

And I don't have a confused pretty girl as my Veep.

Addendum

Sometimes, just because loving someone when it is hard doesn't mean it is better. Love should not take work. Love is a constant.
